How do I know if I am underpaid as an Account Executive in Canada?

Compare your OTE with the estimate for your own profile: segment, years of experience, average deal size and city.

The honest answer depends on your profile, because years of experience and average deal size move an Account Executive's pay as much as the city does. Compare your OTE with the estimate for your own segment, years and deal size.

What Account Executives in Canada earn

On-target earnings (OTE) in Canadian dollars for Account Executives by segment, years of experience and average deal size, in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary and in Ottawa: low, middle and high estimate

SMB, 3 years, average deal size $12K$186K$163K to $208K$157K$138K to $176K
Mid-Market, 2 years, average deal size $25K$152K$133K to $170K$128K$113K to $144K
Mid-Market, 5 years, average deal size $50K$317K$279K to $356K$268K$236K to $300K
Enterprise, 8 years, average deal size $150K$324K$285K to $363K$273K$241K to $306K

All figures are OTE in Canadian dollars: base plus variable at 100% of quota, before equity. Halifax and the other Canadian cities price within $1,000 of Ottawa.

How to check yourself

  • Find your row. Pick the segment, years and average deal size closest to yours.
  • Compare OTE with OTE. Not base with base. Account Executive roles pay about 50/50, so a base that looks low can sit inside a healthy OTE.
  • Read the range. An OTE under the low end of your row is a sign you are underpaid. Between low and middle is within the market. Above the middle means you are paid well for the profile.
  • Check the split and the attainment. An OTE the team never reaches is a base salary with a story attached. Ask how many reps hit quota last year.

If you are below the range

Take your numbers to the conversation: quota attainment, deal sizes and sales cycle, backed by the people who saw you do it. The step-by-step guide is How do I prove my sales track record to a recruiter? The full tables, with the US, BDRs and sales leaders, are in the sales salary guide.

These are TrackRec's estimates for a profile, rounded to the nearest $1,000. Your own number depends on your plan, your accelerators and your company's stage.

Happy hunting.
